About Le Concert de l'Hostel Dieu

Le Concert de l'Hostel Dieu is a period-instrument and vocal ensemble based in Lyon that emphasizes the interpretation of Baroque scores with a historical and philological approach. They have a special passion for working with musicologists to reconstruct performances of music manuscripts held in the libraries in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and are also known for cross-disciplinary projects that bring Baroque aesthetics into dialogue with contemporary artists. The ensemble made its recording debut with Handel's Alceste (1997) and has since released roughly 20 further albums, among them Stradella: La Bellissima Speranza (2005), devoted to the composer's cantatas and sinfonia; La Francesina (2020), a tribute to one of Handel's last muses; and an album of early-18th century opera fragments about Hamlet (The Ghosts of Hamlet, 2025). They released a similar project devoted to the Orlando legend, Furioso, in 2026 with countertenor Xavier Sabata.
