About Justin LaDeau

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I still remember sitting on the floor with a tiny keyboard, at 4 or 5 years old, watching Saturday morning cartoons and attempting to pick out some of those cartoon melodies on the miniature keys. Those cartoons had great music! What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Brian Eno, Ambient 1: Music for Airports Jon Hopkins, King Creosote, Diamond Mine Jubilee Edition Ludovico Einaudi, Underwater (Video Edition) I've fallen in love with each of these albums at different points in time. First, in college with Brian Eno's "Music for Airports." Later, with the musical world-building of Jon Hopkins. And more recently, with the purity of Ludovico's "Underwater." Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Just Breathe” Just Breathe is one of those pieces that happened in real-time. I'd been battling a difficult long-term illness, and during a particularly challenging time, I just sat down and improvised this piece. It perfectly captured how I was feeling. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? The most memorable moments in my career have included scoring a film that screened at the Cannes Film Festival, hearing my music in an exhibit at the Smithsonian, and watching some of my students go on to do great things in their own musical careers. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I like to keep things simple when I can, and I'd love to just continue writing music that provides people with solace and helps them relax and recharge.
