About I.Am.Ueno

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. My earliest memory is the feeling of taking my first steps in front of the living room TV. My mom watched The Blues Brothers as Aretha Franklin sang “Think,” and I started walking across the room. Even now, that scene stirs the urge to move my feet. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Janet Jackson, All for You Missy Elliott, Da Real World Tyler, The Creator, Goblin My top 3 favorites: Janet Jackson, Tyler, the Creator, and Missy Elliott. I still draw inspiration from their creativity—music, visuals, and boundary-pushing. They show art can be many things yet still connect deeply. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “101 Freestyle” I love 101 freestyle because it marked my move to California, as I hustled to push my music and learn my new way of living. It happened in traffic on the way home, and I still reach for it in the car especially when I’m on the 101. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? One memory is my SXSW set I performed and realized Young Money artists nodding to me. In my first year in California, I performed before a 626 Night Market fest crowd. A supportive dance studio owner fostered a warm space that helped grow my sound. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I aim to perform on larger stages Coachella, SXSW, awards, pre-show moments and collaborate with artists who inspire me. As an LGBTQ creator, I want to motivate others to pursue their passion, live authentically, and color their sound with courage.
