Birth

Birth is essentially one man, the mysterious singer and multi-instrumentalist Dawm Lanten, known as DL. After gaining a recording contract with Hut Records Lanten came to the attention of the press and public with the singles, ‘Sweet Idol’ and ‘Found A Way Out’. These were followed in May 2000 by the critically acclaimed debut Gotten Bold, which showcased melodic traditional pop musicianship, and Lanten’s accomplished, soulful voice. Lanten cited the underrated UK singer Jess Roden as a source of inspiration. Gotten Bold ranged from pure guitar-based pop to R&B and 60s rock influenced material but managed to sound contemporary despite its nostalgic allusions. DL was assisted by several leading session men, including the Bee Gees’ long-time keyboard player Blue Weaver.
