María Escarmiento

Born in Madrid in 1991, singer María Villar first caught the public eye when she was listed among the contestants of Operación Triunfo 2018, Spain's most popular talent show. When it came time to launch herself as a solo artist, however, Villar surprised audiences by reinventing herself as María Escarmiento and turning to an urban-oriented style, particularly on her 2020 debut EP Sintiéndolo Mucho. Successive releases found her veering toward a more electronic sound, chiefly influenced by hyperpop. Her first full-length, Cosas De Brujas (2023), included the minor hit "Puedes Contar Conmigo." Three EPs followed in 2024: Sensación De Calor, iCandy, and Sensación De Calor 2. Forever, María Escarmiento's sophomore album, arrived in 2026.
