Justin Robinson

A Grammy-winning violinist, singer, and songwriter, Justin Robinson celebrates North Carolina's Black musical traditions, blending old-timey folk and blues with hip-hop and indie folk sounds. He emerged to acclaim as a co-founder of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, winning a Grammy for their 2010 album Genuine Negro Jig. Along with forays into preserving Black Southern foodways and environmentalism, Robinson has continued to broaden his fiddle music, releasing 2011's Bones for Tinder as Justin Robinson and the Mary Annettes and reuniting with his Chocolate Drops bandmate Rhiannon Giddens for 2025's What Did the Blackbird Say to the Crow.
