박혜진 Park Hye Jin’s music pairs dreamy deep house with an unfiltered look at her innermost feelings. Slipping between Korean and English in a low-key murmur, she describes ambition, homesickness, racism, and—lest anyone think her too serious—booty calls. Born in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea in 1994, she lived in Melbourne, London, and Seoul before settling in Los Angeles. Her 2018 debut EP, If U Want It, drew from that decade’s lo-fi house in its muted drums and swirling synths, but her sound opened up on albums like 2021’s Before I Die and 2023’s Sail the Seven Seas, morphing into a shape-shifting amalgam of dance, rap, and ambient. No matter the style, her emotions remain central. “In my life, when I’m really sad, I just sing and dance,” she told Apple Music. “If there are times when others feel sad, too, I want them to just sing and dance and leave everything behind for a while.”
