Brent Hinds

Brent Hinds was the co-founder, guitarist, and co-vocalist of Mastodon, an acclaimed American metal band renowned for its diverse sound, which incorporates elements of stoner and sludge metal, hardcore, neo-psych, and progressive alternative rock. A creative force behind seminal efforts like Leviathan (2004), Crack the Skye (2009), and Emperor of Sand (2017), his distinctive style, rooted in country and bluegrass, helped redefine heavy music for a new millennium. Hinds died in a motorcycle accident in August 2025; he was 51 years of age.
