Merging the studied cool of the new wave revivalist movement with the sleek textures and commanding rhythm of electronic pop and a healthy dose of Prince-style funk, Hockey burst out of the Portland, OR music scene in 2009 to become cult favorites in the United Kingdom. There's an odd timelessness to the band as they sound perfectly at the intersection of glam and disco on one track, between punk and post-punk on another, yet never seem retro. Meanwhile, the vocals of Ben Grubin echo Bowie's sense of discovery and arrogant blitheness.
