About Bong-Ra

Prolific Dutch musician Jason Köhnen uses the name Bong-Ra to fuse extreme sounds such as breakcore, black metal, and industrial. Debuting with the album New Millennium Dreadz in 1998, he pioneered the raggacore subgenre, an intense mutation of dancehall, jungle, and gabber. With further releases such as 2005's I Am the God of Hellfire and side projects like Glowstyx and Servants of the Apocalyptic Goat Rave, he combined oldskool rave with Satanic metal imagery. His solo work went in a more overtly metal-inspired direction with releases like 2007's Full Metal Racket, while he gained a cult following outside the breakcore realm for his related groups the Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble and the Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation. Bong-Ra ventured into doom metal with 2018's Antediluvian, and releases like 2025's To Mega Panopticon leaned closer to Godflesh-style industrial metal.
