In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. When I was 12 I began going to a local jam session where I grew up in Durham, NC and was mentored by Yusuf Salim. I would learn songs on the bandstand and play with the other musicians and fell in love with the music, and learning new songs.
