About Don Toliver
Don Toliver remembers the first time he got played on the radio. OG Ron C, 93.7, Houston’s The Beat. “You know how, like, you have a 93.7 late, late time? Slow, slow jam?” he reminisced to Apple Music in 2020. “I’ll never forget that, man.” A sweet one, for sure. Toliver started recording in high school, getting regional traction before breaking through as a feature on Travis Scott’s ASTROWORLD (“CAN'T SAY”) in 2018. His key tracks—2019's “HAD ENOUGH” (from the Travis Scott/Cactus Jack Records showcase JACKBOYS), “Situation,” “Best You Had,” 2019's “No Idea”—are exemplary blends of trap and soul, showcasing a vocalist bringing a classic touch to a contemporary style without making it sound like a throwback. His debut album, Heaven or Hell, which featured the aforementioned “No Idea,” was quickly followed by 2021’s Life of a DON. In 2023, the rapper/singer switched it up with the concept album Love Sick, which blended influences of soul, funk, and disco. His evolution continued on 2024’s HARDSTONE PSYCHO, a gritty, high-energy pivot that introduced rock-tinged production, distorted guitars, and heavy, revving basslines. Toliver infused his genre-bending agenda even further with the 2026 release of OCTANE, a fostering of his particular mix of R&B and hip-hop.
