James Brandon Lewis Trio

The James Brandon Lewis Quartet is composed of the saxophonist along with drummer Chad Taylor, pianist Aruán Ortiz, and bassist Brad Jones. Their sound joins post-bop and modal music to gospel and R&B. The band had been playing gigs for a year before releasing Molecular in 2020, followed by Code of Being a year later. In 2022 they issued the tour document Molecular Systematic Music. Lewis spent the next couple of years recording with his Red Lily Quartet (For Mahalia, With Love) and Messthetics. The group reunited for Transfiguration in 2024 and followed it with Abstraction Is Deliverance in 2025, making them the saxophonist's most consistently productive ensemble.
