The Dwarfs of East Agouza

Cairo-formed trio the Dwarfs of East Agouza make improvisation-based experimental rock incorporating traditional Arabic percussion as well as driving, Krautrock-esque rhythms, additionally recalling the inspired chaos of no wave and free jazz. The supergroup consists of Egyptian composer Maurice Louca, Sun City Girls' Alan Bishop, and Montreal-based artist Sam Shalabi. The trio made their recorded debut with the 2016 LP Bes, and have steadily issued further records on labels like Unrock and Akuphone, including 2019's Electric Smog with Bill Orcutt and Chris Corsano. After issuing live recordings such as 2023's High Tide in the Lowlands, the Dwarfs of East Agouza released the electronic-based studio effort Sasquatch Landslide in 2025.
