Lia Kohl

Composer and cellist Lia Kohl explores the relationships between bodies and spaces in her work, often incorporating field recordings and focusing on everyday sounds. Based in Chicago, she has composed work for ensembles, created sound installations, and performed at several galleries and festivals. She has arranged strings and recorded with artists including Circuit des Yeux, Steve Hauschildt, and Makaya McCraven. Her own recordings include The Ceiling Reposes (2023) and Normal Sounds (2024), as well as efforts with Macie Stewart, Zachary Good, Daniel Wyche, and others. She has also released several recordings with Whitney Johnson (Matchess, Winged Wheel), including 2026's BODY SOUND, also featuring Stewart.
