About Retji

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. My earliest musical memories began when I watched my older brothers take hours to learn Tupac and Tuface songs. Next would be in boarding school when I joined the secondary school's gospel music group, 'Prodigies'. The rest was history from then on. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Burna Boy, Twice As Tall Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley, Nas, Distant Relatives (Bonus Track Version) Kendrick Lamar, To Pimp a Butterfly These albums provide a blend of music that represents strong cultures. From hip hop, reggae and afrobeat, these albums are able to find ways to melodically deliver conscious messaging. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Yabis” Inspired by Fela Kuti, this song speaks to the political landscape of my home country. I wrote it during my NYSC service year. Produced by the Late Dokta Frabz, this song is aimed at inspiring revolutionary activity in the minds of Nigerians. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? My most memorable moments lie in all the times I recognize my growth as an artist, which is pretty much everyday. From being able to hold a note on my saxophone, to completing songs and projects, and also being able to score music for films. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I believe in the divine order of life and God's will. So If God permits, I would like to collaborate with Kendrick Lamar, Damian Marley and Burna Boy. I would also like to perform and win an award at the grammys.
