With their unsettling and frequently beautiful combination of post-punk, dub, Krautrock, and found sounds, EXEK capture the real-life dystopia of the early 21st century. Even as the band's lineup grew, its roots as the studio project of frontman Albert Wolski remained in the hallucinatory layers of effects and textures that imbued their music with a captivating oddness. Elastic rhythms, toys, and kitchen appliances used as instruments, and Wolski's sardonic, spoken-word perspectives on the issues of the day combined in fascinating ways on their woozy 2016 debut album, Biased Advice. From there, EXEK remained unpredictable and unmistakable as they pursued a slightly more structured sound on 2018's Ahead of Two Thoughts and pushed their boundaries even further on 2022's Advertise Here.
