About Jon Madof

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Around 1988 I heard 'Way Down In The Hole' by Tom Waits on cassette. The guitar solo completely blew my mind. How was this possible??? I later learned that it was the incomparable Marc Ribot, and much later got to work with Marc on many projects. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Fugazi, Repeater & 3 Songs John Zorn, Naked City Sonny Sharrock, Ask the Ages These three albums pretty much sum up my musical universe. Early on I was a punk kid and the groove and power of Fugazi was unmatched in my young brain. Then I moved on to jazz but sill retained that punk spirit. So, Zorn and Sharrock for the win!!! Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Urim” Urim is special to me because it's the first song I released where I did everything except the mastering. I composed, performed, engineered, and mixed the music. I even did the cover art :) What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? My most memorable moment is probably playing for 20,000 people at the Jewish Festival in Krakow, Poland with my band Zion80. When we got one stage we couldn't see to the back of the crowd. We gave it everything and the audience gave it right back. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Of course - too many to name! I'd LOVE to work with Daniel Lanois. I have a series of solo guitar albums in my head. And my two guitar, two bass, two drum powerhouse of a band hasn't been done! Plus I've yet to play in Japan :)
