Beautiful Life Jimmy Greene
EDITORS’ NOTES
Noted saxophonist Jimmy Greene suffered the ultimate horror when his six-year-old daughter Ana was killed during the 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. While his grief will be a lifelong process, this step finds him making music to celebrate her life with a large group of friends pitching in. This often-poignant album never goes for the cheap emotional triggers, but the home recordings of Ana singing on “Saludos/Come Thou Mighty King” are unflinching in their acknowledgement of the occasion. Nearly as powerful are songs like “Ana’s Way” with singer Kurt Elling and a children’s choir, while “Seventh Candle” is lighter and more uplifting.
