Anyone fascinated by the creative daring of the Royal Trux double album Twin Infinitives will understand Dan’l Boone’s self-titled debut album. That's partly since Neil Hagerty, the mastermind behind that album, is a major player here. Along with Wolf Eyes’ Nate Young, Drainolith’s Alex Moskos, and Formant’s Charles Ballas, Hagerty had come to Denver to work on the next Drainolith album when ideas began forming for a separate project. Not everyone will enjoy “Thee Testimonye of an Maiden” and its warped synths and maniacal percussive obsessions, but Dan’l Boone don’t aim to please. Those familiar with Chicago’s Drag City label should enjoy the high weirdness.
