INDIVIDUAL

Rising Puerto Rican rapper/singer Yan Block proved to be both an agile and indelible collaborator by way of his features on momentous posse cuts like “ETA” and “YOGURCITO REMIX,” to say nothing of his own “444.” A more substantial outing than his rather concise 2024 effort Pitcher, his album INDIVIDUAL appears poised to help him deservedly reap the benefits of his profile-raising appearances on other artists’ songs. Spanning some 20 tracks, including previous singles “222” and “MUERTX” as well as a handful of interludes, the full-length rightfully places him directly under the spotlight. Uncrowded by other voices, Block at last lets himself be known without distraction on cuts like “ceniZa” and the salacious “Modo Oculto.” His established penchant for hybridized production, evident on “Espejo” and “Luna” yet noticeably poppier on the upbeat “A TI” and the retro-futuristic “ALMA,” gives INDIVIDUAL a certain edge. These dance-floor provocations persist with the dembow-house fusion of “Aden” and the garage variant “TOA.”
