Dolla - EP

Dolla - EP

On his third solo project, Dolla, Ghanaian rap star $pacely positions himself as the high priest of getting shit done. The EP follows 2021’s KEANU as a call to action leaning heavily on the trap sound he helped popularize as a member of La Même Gang. And throughout it, $pacely makes a case for striving being a communal endeavor. The MC is encouraging rigor and discipline on “WORK” with Okese1, while running through the bling and perks that the fruit of his labor afford him. It’s no surprise that La Même Gang star DarkoVibes drops by for an energetic drill-laced celebration of good fortune on “Ya dede,” and Jayduh joins for an invocation to keep leveling up on “More bands.” In the rare moments that $pacely is all alone, he’s characteristically defiant, reminding listeners that he’s back outside on “Again,” while laying out a blueprint for sniffing out cash-making opportunities on “Saucy.” Between buoyant trap bounce delivered with an unmistakable Ghanaian sensibility and thunderous riffs that accessorize the instrumentals, Dolla is a timely reminder of $pacely’s ability to meet the moment. It all comes into focus on “W’S,” where tales of fantastical exploits remind listeners that $pacely is a king in his city.
