Throughout salsa’s storied history, Puerto Rican artists honored the holiday season with Christmas-themed releases. While 1970s projects like Asalto Navideño and Ismael Rivera’s Feliz Navidad remain staples in Latin households during the most wonderful time of the year, today’s celebrations have plenty of others to choose from within the genre, including this modern-day effort from Victor Manuelle. Not his first venture into this oeuvre, with albums Navidad a Mi Estilo and Memorias de Navidad already under his belt, the veteran singer continues this run with La Parranda Es Nuestra. Several songs presented here are updated versions of ones that appeared on earlier volumes, tracks made new with the help of luminaries from the tropical music world including Elvis Crespo and Gilberto Santa Rosa. Of particular note, Dominican great José Alberto “El Canario” joins Manuelle for the exuberant and festive “Quiero Parranda,” while pioneer Tito Nieves joins the storytelling tradition of “Yo Me Voy Para Mí Tierra.”
