ANTES DE QUE SEA TARDE

ANTES DE QUE SEA TARDE

The Venezuelan breakout shifts from duo mode to the solo spotlight. Allied with fellow Venezuelan artist Alleh, Yorghaki became a known quantity in Latin music due to the success of the bespoke duo’s inventive singles “capaz (merengueton)” and “una noche.” After almost a decade of working primarily in a collaborative mode as a producer for other vocalists, he finally steps out as a solo artist with the release of ANTES DE QUE SEA TARDE. Beginning with the title track, a melodic and romantic cut that builds on his unique approach to reggaetón, the largely feature-free project centers him fully as a singer as well as a composer. Over the course of a half hour, he evokes strong emotions both lyrically and musically on songs like “Diferente” and the subtly poppier “mientras pueDa.” His choices reflect an affinity for globally sourced sonics. Though the microphone generally belongs to him here, his “abusadOra (tambores)” invites Colombian star Beéle in for an ever-evolving cut propelled by Afro-Venezuelan percussion.
