No Place For Me

No Place For Me

Miss May I’s eighth album marks a new era for the band. After parting ways with longtime guitarists BJ Stead and Justin Aufdemkampe in 2024, the Ohio metalcore squad enlisted new guitarist Elisha Mullins to fill the void. As a result, No Place for Me is decidedly more “metal” than “core,” as Mullins’ dizzying guitar work takes center stage. On “Sanctuary” and “Portrait of Pain,” Levi Benton and bassist Ryan Neff trade vocals over neo-thrash riffs and a hailstorm of pinch harmonics. “Death Threat” and “Die on the Vine” boast some At The Gates moments from Benton and Mullins before Neff brings them back to metalcore with his good-cop vocals. “Hand Me a Halo” takes a detour through industrial and nu metal as Benton references the band’s Christian roots in a song about giving into anxiety.
