Released exactly 19 years—to the day—after their 2007 debut, The Way of the Fist, Five Finger Death Punch’s 10th album is a celebration of the band itself. It’s also the first FFDP album since The Way of the Fist that’s not produced by Kevin Churko. Instead, guitarist Zoltan Bathory and vocalist Ivan Moody brought in producer Drew Fulk, known for his work with Motionless in White, Lil Wayne, and Disturbed. The result is a shorter and more streamlined effort than recent past records. Lead single “Eye of the Storm” makes its point succinctly with an airtight fusion of thrash and nu metal as Moody offers his own twist on the New Testament: “Oh Father, please forgive us ’cause we know just what we’ve done.” On “De Oppresso Liber,” he invokes the official motto of the US Army Special Forces for the latest of FFDP’s pro-military anthems.
