Forget the Remember

On its sophomore album, San Francisco's The Love Dimension hones its hippie-rock party-time vibe into a tightly crafted blend of hooky, folk-flavored tunes driven by sharply strummed guitars, vintage keyboards, and crisp, shimmering notes. Among the more high-energy, rollicking numbers are the twangy stomper "Bound to the Sound" and the highway ode "Down the 101," which pounds with a trucker's heart and barreling piano. "Uma Coisa Linda" is a frisky, lovestruck number that occasionally breaks into a full gallop, with a free-spirited recorder (yep, recorder) and the vocals of Jimmy Dias and Celeste Obomsawin hitting a gut-propelled stride atop racing, jangly guitars. Breezy midtempo tunes like "Where Do We Go" and "True Love Comes Round Again" trickle along with bubbling harmonica and organs, Byrds-flavored guitar, and delightfully catchy melodies that highlight the vocals. A shy jewel among these spotlight-hogging songs is "Non-Judgement Day," which moves languidly with sighing pedal steel and feels a bit like The Velvet Underground and Big Star getting together for kicks.
