NEA II isn't exactly a new album from the decidedly retro indie band The Chamanas, whose members reside on both sides of the border between El Paso, Texas, and Juarez, Mexico. Both an unexpected bonus for longtime fans and a new chance to reach those outside the Latin indie scene, it has highlights from 2017's original NEA (including the dreamily hypnotic trip-hop/psych-rock hybrid “Alma Ciega") and a clutch of new cuts like "Le Verdad," which blends the sugary hooks of '60s girl-group pop with unsettling space-age electronics. They even redo their atmospheric Spanish cover of Portugal, The Man's alt-radio smash "Feel It Still"—transforming an upbeat rock anthem into a glamorous-but-eerie slow dance.
