Lost Files - The Collection

Lost Files - The Collection

Deep cuts and alternate versions from the breadwinning Baton Rouge rapper. With close to two decades’ worth of albums and mixtapes under his proverbial belt, Kevin Gates boasts a catalog of work that speaks volumes. Yet with a career that long and a catalog that deep, there’s bound to be material of his that many fans have yet to hear. For those eager and interested in hearing even more from the distinctive Baton Rouge-bred rapper, Lost Files - The Collection serves its purpose with an hour’s worth of music. Tracks like “Talk Hustle” and “Millionaire” capture his characteristic confidence over trap-informed production. His charms as an emotive vocalist and reflective lyricist come through on decidedly Southern cuts, like the bluesy “Fire” and the bass-rattling “T-Shirt (Fresh).” He spits with precision on the booming yet melodic “I Go,” a posse cut with K CAMP and Trap Dickey. A number of the songs here reappear in alternate versions, sometimes under different titles and with or without guests, but that’s just how his completists will want it.
