Heavy Serenade - EP

The six-member K-pop girl group solidifies their rep as vocal powerhouses. When NMIXX released Blue Valentine in 2025, the K-pop girl group, which debuted in 2022, hit new heights. The album went to the top of South Korea’s domestic charts and earned 10 music show wins. With it, the six-member JYP Entertainment group solidified their reputation as vocal powerhouses in an industry that doesn’t always prioritize that aspect of performance. On 2026’s Heavy Serenade, that emphasis on vocally driven musicality is infused into the mini album’s central concept. Electropop title track “Heavy Serenade” returns to the same tempo-shifting pop maximalism that made “Blue Valentine” a hit, tapping into trance, acid house, and drum ’n’ bass sounds to express the feeling of being deeply in love. Elsewhere, album opener “Crescendo” uses the sonic space between delicate melody and dramatic synths to evoke an all-encompassing adoration. Album ender “LOUD,” which was written by Australian member Lily, lets go of the oxymoronic juxtaposition of a title like “Heavy Serenade” and the gradual build of a “Crescendo” for the single-minded focus of refusing to stay silent: “You told me to shh, but you make me wanna love you loud/Need a microphone and speaker just so I can scream it out.” The result? A self-love pop anthem wrapped in the guise of a romantic love song that complexifies Heavy Serenade’s tale of unwavering devotion.
