ILLIT’s fourth release in two years, MAMIHLAPINATAPAI, is slight: clocking in at less than 14 minutes across five tracks, the mini album represents an evolution of sound for members Yunah, Minju, Moka, Wonhee, and Iroha. The dreamy electronic pop energy of previous hits “Magnetic” and “NOT CUTE ANYMORE” is still present in tracks like the social-media-literate “GRWM (Get Ready With Me)” and pet-themed “paw, paw!,” but it’s accompanied by edgier moments. The most overt come in lead single “It’s Me,” a techno-pop rush defined by a dramatic beat drop and a sung-chanted “Who’s your bias?/I’m your bias” hook that playfully attempts to brainwash listeners.
