An internationally known DJ with several global hits under his belt, Deorro obviously knows how to move a crowd. Yet while the Mexican-American producer had worked with Spanish-speaking stars like Elvis Crespo and Pitbull, it wasn’t until 2022’s guest-heavy ORRO that he made his first full-length statement of Latinidad on the dance floor. Now linked with the música mexicana hit factory Double P Records, he follows up with Botas & Rave, an album that fuses his club sensibilities with those of the thriving musical movement. Beginning with “EL TOMATE,” a riotous team-up with Sinaloan act La Adictiva, the project presents as a nonstop party full of hedonistic promises to fulfill. The authentic pisteando energy intensifies for booze-soaked celebrations “BOTAS CON BASS” and “ME GUSTA.” His years of experience across electronic dance styles serves him well here, yet it also opens him up to exciting collaborative crossovers like the duranguense hybrid “ZAPATEADO ELECTRÓNICO” with Chicago’s Alacranes Musical and the banda-informed “TECHNO QUEBRADITA” with the like-minded 8onthebeat. By the closing “EL FEO” with norteño vets Voces Del Rancho, Deorro clearly knows he’s made something distinctly Mexican yet uniquely his own.
