“The music is like a summary of the past five years of my life and the crazy journey I’ve been on”: The DJ pours himself into his sixth album. “I want this album to play like a DJ set, taking people on a journey whether they’re getting ready to go out, at the after-party, or just in their garden on a Sunday afternoon,” Sonny Fodera tells Apple Music. “The music is like a summary of the past five years of my life and the crazy journey I’ve been on.” Since the early 2010s, the Australian DJ and producer has whipped global dance floors into a frenzy thanks to his energetic take on house music that harnesses body-shaking bass as much as soaring, emotive vocal melodies. A stalwart Ibiza resident, BRIT Award nominee, and collaborator with the likes of house pioneer MK, Fodera broadens his vision even further on his sixth album, can we do it all again?. Across 18 tracks, the sprawling album seamlessly transitions from the thumping house banger “Let Me Be in Your Arms,” featuring Cameroonian singer Libianca, to the Afro-house inflections of “Look,” the deep-house peak-time moment of “Asking,” and the techno energy of “Mind Still.” “It’s the culmination of my musical experience, and even though it’s been tough at points, I absolutely love making albums,” Fodera says. “Finally, this music doesn’t just live in my sets—people can take it home with them too.” Read on for his in-depth thoughts on the album, track by track. “Feel Again” “I was flying to Pacha in Ibiza for the first night of my residency [in 2025] when the producer BURNS sent me a demo of this track with a vocal from Kareen Lomax. I downloaded it just before the plane took off and then listened to it for an hour on repeat, it was that amazing. Later that week, I got into the studio and added the piano and other production parts, and it’s been one of my favorites ever since.” “My Loving” (with CHRYSTAL) “I’ve been wanting to do a track with CHRYSTAL for ages, ever since hearing her song ‘The Days’ on the radio and Shazam-ing it to find out who was singing. We had been talking over Instagram for a while, and one day, she sent me the vocal for ‘My Loving’ and I thought it was absolutely perfect. I wrote to it, and then we met for the first time shooting the music video.” “Never Letting Go” (with Sienna Sophia) “I had heard Sienna’s track with Josh Baker, ‘Come Closer,’ which was her first release, and I just loved it. I then invited her into a session with myself and the songwriter Karen Poole, who I work with a lot, and that was when I realized Sienna is only 20! We ended up writing this and two other songs in a day, and this version on the record is the one we recorded then and there.” “Let Me Be in Your Arms” (with Libianca) “When I was sent the original vocal for ‘Let Me Be in Your Arms,’ it had been written by RAYE with the producers Billen Ted and she was pitching it to artists as a songwriter. I knew I had to produce the track, so we needed to find someone else to cut the top line. Libianca was top of my list of vocalists I love that I wanted to reach out to for this album.” “Think About Us” (with D.O.D and Poppy Baskcomb) “The topline vocals and melody for this track were pitched to both myself and my good friend, the producer D.O.D, and we both ended up making bootlegs of it to play in our sets. When I realized we each had versions, I decided we should put them together to make this track, since he’s such an amazing producer. He’s so intricate with his buildups and he’s added so much to it.” “Look” (with Gia Koka and Takura) “Takura is the MC for Chase & Status and we’ve been writing together for ages. He sent me this idea one day and it felt really different to what I usually do, so I decided to go more Drake and Afro-house with the direction. I finished it last year in Ibiza and was playing it to friends and they all loved it. It’s one of my favorites and it’s a left-field moment, since I wanted some ups and downs on the record, and this brings it down from the intensity of ‘Think About Us.’” “Somedays” (with Jazzy and D.O.D) “I wrote this song in about two hours with Jazzy and Clementine Douglas in a studio in Ladbroke Grove [West London] and then I brought D.O.D into it because I knew he would push it into a peak-time energy. It’s definitely been one of my biggest productions to date and it’s helped my career so much—it was my first track to be BRIT- and ARIA-nominated. I’m really proud of it.” “Only Thing That Matters” (with HAYLA) “I love HAYLA, she’s another vocalist that was on my list to reach out to after I heard her insane range on the John Summit track ‘Shiver.’ I’ve been playing this one for years now, especially at places like the Creamfields main stage, as it’s a progressive house tune and it’s perfect for festivals. It’s nice to finally have it out.” “Tell Me” (with Clementine Douglas) “This was written with Stu Crichton and Clementine Douglas from a really old idea she had. She wasn’t sure about it but I thought it was fantastic, so I produced it and played it to her after a set and she finally agreed to do it. We shot the video in Iceland, which was absolutely epic with Clementine in the mountains and the drone flying over! She has so many great ideas like this waiting to be released.” “On My Mind” (with j00i) “I’m a guitarist and have been playing since I was six, so I wanted to include some of that musical experience into the record. It gives ‘On My Mind’ a bit more of a summer vibe to bring it back to earth after the heaviness of ‘Tell Me.’ When I was doing the car test of playing all the new tracks while riding around, I kept coming back to this one.” “All This Time” (with Jazzy) “I was in the studio with Karen Poole and Jazzy in Soho [London], and that day, we had already written two other records, but at the end of the session, Karen popped out for a coffee and started singing the melody for this hook as she was leaving. Jazzy suddenly got on the mic and sang, ‘all this time’ and it all came together so fast. We then went back to finish it and in my sets now, it’s up there with ‘Somedays’ in terms of crowd reaction and sing-back.” “Asking” (with MK and Clementine Douglas) “I’ve always loved working with MK, since when I was starting out on the scene I used to watch him play all the time and I would go to the studio with him, where I learned a lot. I really admire his vocal chops, and after Clementine sent me this vocal, I asked him to work his magic with it and he really did his thing.” “Love on Fire” (with Lilly Ahlberg) “Lilly wrote the demo vocal for this track with her guitar and iPhone and then after I sent her back the beat, she recorded the final vocal on her phone and that’s what we used on the finished tune because it sounds amazing. Props to Apple for creating such good sound, I can’t believe it came out like that. We wrote this about six years ago and it was on the shortlist for my previous album since I always loved it.” “Cross the Line” (with Hayley May) “I wanted to do something different on ‘Cross the Line’ with the chords that come in at the start—it needed to be a sound that opens things up and really grabs you. It was inspired by Fred again.. and Bicep, and then the rest of the track drops into a four-to-the-floor house feel. It’s something new for me.” “After Hours” (with Julia Church) “Eddie Jenkins is an incredible producer and he sent me this idea with Julia years ago. It was very simple with just piano and vocal, although Julia is such an incredible vocalist with an insane range. I’ve been playing this out for two years now and it works really well in America at 2 am, embodying that after-hours feeling. It’s actually my daughter’s favorite, she’s always singing it to me.” “Close to You” (with Caroline Byrne) “Caroline sent me this track and I went in on it because at this stage of the album, I wanted things to get heavier and faster. It’s in the same key as ‘Mind Still,’ which comes next, because I wanted a moment in my set where I can just bang it out. It’s something you can play at an arena or festival stage and the reaction is always nuts.” “Mind Still” (feat. blythe) “I was really inspired by Calvin Harris’ ‘Miracle’ on this, even though it doesn’t sound anything like it! I was playing that track a lot at the time when I had a residency at Amnesia in Ibiza and ‘Mind Still’ is a mix of that influence with my love of techno artists like Dubfire and Adam Beyer, since the beat is very techno.” “Hits” (with James Carter and elsie) “James Carter sent me this vocal from elsie, who has such a sweet tone, and it grabbed me because it all felt a bit spooky. It made me want to try something different, so I flipped the house feel into something more moody, since I like finishing my albums on a new note—it keeps things from becoming predictable.”
