TRESCENDER

TRESCENDER

Piso 21 successfully moved past their boy band roots by integrating reggaetón and other popular sounds into their work. The Medellín act illustrated maturity both musically and thematically on 2024’s 2.1, something that continues with the follow-up TRESCENDER. Rather than narrow their mission, their first album as a trio only seems to have amplified their purpose in this particular era of the group. Rock-oriented opener “Bruno Mars” and Lasso team-up “Nunca Me Lo Esperé” find their unit in a rather strong position, bolstered further by the emotional ballad “Cuidado Con Lo Que Pides” and the hip-hop throwback “Demasiado.” While they haven’t left their reggaetonero edge behind them entirely, a fact evidenced by “Mensaje Directo,” their taste in polyrhythms extends further via the Afrobeats vibrations of “Gravedad” and “Volver” with Marc Anthony and Beéle. Standout “Regalito” with fellow Colombian artist Juan Duque elevates things into the tropical domain, while closer “Por Si Mañana No Estoy” takes them into something even more timeless.
