LOVE, LOVE, LOVE

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE

An unabashedly romantic and reverential homage to the sound of golden-oldies radio. Stephen Sanchez may call Nashville home, but his heart belongs to Motown. As the title of his second album strongly suggests, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE is an unabashedly romantic and reverential homage to the sound of golden-oldies radio, setting his honeyed croon to the hop-along rhythms of The Vandellas (“IT MIGHT BE LOVE”), the brassy bonhomie of The Temptations (“SWEET LOVE”), and the dreamy grooves of Marvin Gaye circa What’s Going On (the title track). But like Bruno Mars before him, Sanchez is a natural-born showman who delights in giving classic sounds a modern makeover, with the future-soul strutter “CHUCK THE MONEY” and the sweeping U2-esque anthem “DON’T LET ME GO” shaking off the ’60s-retro dressing for more contemporary alt-pop aesthetics.
