Though O’ Romeo is perhaps Vishal Bhardwaj’s most overtly violent work, the filmmaker-composer’s songs for the crime drama—featuring the characteristically colloquial-yet-poetic lyrics of Gulzar—carry all the subtle charms of his previous soundtracks. He plays around with his trademark style, mixing in EDM and qawwali on “Aashiqon Ki Colony”, but also gives the public what they’ve come to expect on the euphoric “Paan Ki Dukaan”. And there’s a triple treat of Arijit Singh, who relishes the chance to do something different, as on the jazz-tinged title cut and the ominous-yet-romantic “Ishq Ka Fever”.
