Dalex certainly made a name for himself with reggaetón hits like “Pa Mí” and Rich Music supergroup The Academy’s “Quizás.” Yet the Puerto Rican singer remains an R&B artist at heart, something he’s kept central to his projects well into the 2020s. On his EP-length RED ROOM, he transmits this core nature of his craft across multiple musical styles that serve to amplify his expressive voice. “Cuarto Rojo” and “Sin Voz” play to a relatively traditional if decidedly contemporary format, keeping the tempos slow and sensual as he delivers intimate commentary and raunchy promises. He dips into more of a melodic hip-hop space for the sparkling “OH Shit OH Ma,” though fans of his earlier work may find themselves grinding to the low-impact perreo of “My Love” or “Una Zeta.” Thematically, his pillow-talk fantasies come to life on the pulsating “Mi Último Día” and the provocative “OD.”
