IVE continues their sonic journey of self-love with REVIVE+. While the 12-track album’s title suggests a kind of rebirth or resurrection, the K-pop girl group’s mission and messaging have been clear since their 2021 debut: empowerment through self-confidence. “Now, look at me now, look at me now/If you wish for it, anything will come true,” the members harmonize in the glittering pre-chorus of pop-anthem lead single “BLACKHOLE,” leading by example. Members Gaeul, Yujin, Rei, Wonyoung, Liz, and Leeseo are edgier but no less encouraging on “BANG BANG,” a high-tempo, hip-hop-infused dance track that races towards its finish with affirmations like “Wake up, don’t hesitate/Who cares what others think.” The second half of REVIVE+ immerses listeners in the performance-driven solo tracks originally staged by the members on tour. Wonyoung is cool and confident on “hot girl” banger “8,” while Gaeul embraces her imperfections on the delicate pop song “Odd.” Leeseo is “your favorite snow bunny” on the electronic thumper “Super ICY,” while Liz belts her heart out for the nostalgic pop track “Unreal.” Rei lets someone know they already love her on the chiptune-style bop “In Your Heart,” while Yujin channels naughts-era hip-hop for the album-ending “Force.”
