Diavola

Gabrielle Cavassa has long been a celebrated jazz vocalist, but on her 2026 album Diavola, she gets co-signs from some of the biggest names in the genre. The album arrived via legendary label Blue Note and was co-produced by saxophonist Joshua Redman and label president Don Was. For the occasion, the team recruited Jeff Parker on guitar, Larry Grenadier on bass, Brian Blade on drums, Paul Cornish on piano, and Redman on tenor saxophone—a legendary supporting group in its own right. The results speak to Cavassa’s virtuosity as a vocalist. The band cooks up an inventive and moody rendition of “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head,” built around a mesmerizing guitar melody from Parker. The originals land just as powerfully, like “Bossy Nova,” which honors the playfulness of the form with clever lyrics from Cavassa: “Sunshine on my behind/I wouldn’t care if they missed me,” she practically giggles.
