The Swedish band condenses their heavy doom into shorter songs. After five albums’ worth of heavy long-form doom, Monolord purposefully wrote some of their shortest songs for Neverending. When the Swedish riff lords learned that their previous material was considered too long for inclusion in a local podcast, they enlisted TOOL producer Sylvia Massy to help them hone their material into short, effective bangers. The results are undeniable: “Iodine,” “Crystal Bridge,” and lead single “You Bastard” are both memorable and succinct. “Inside a Collider” and “Oozing Wound” resume the trio’s lengthy tendencies, while closer “It’s Neverending” is the first Monolord song that vocalist/guitarist Thomas Jäger doesn’t sing on. Instead, Firespawn vocalist Jörgen Sandström lends his thunderous death metal growl to the proceedings.
