My Ghosts Go Ghost

My Ghosts Go Ghost

The first album from Arizona-based duo By Storm is heavily informed by the context in which it arrived. RiTchie and Parker Corey used to be part of a trio called Injury Reserve, art rap innovators making serious headway in the world of alternative hip-hop. The band’s third member, Stepa J. Groggs, tragically died in 2020. After a hiatus, RiTchie and Corey reemerged as a duo, carrying on the band’s mission but doing so with a heavier heart. My Ghosts Go Ghost is contemplative but not mournful. By Storm uses this fresh start to continue their mission of reinventing the way rap sounds. Opener “Can I Have You for Myself” features RiTchie floating over an acoustic guitar melody before the track’s latter half morphs into a bass-heavy waltz, while the seven-minute “In My Town” imagines the middle ground between glitchy ambient and punk rap.
