Canadian tech-death kings Archspire were recognized as one of the fastest bands in the land long ago, but their fifth album is a dizzying next-level reminder of their supremacy. Too Fast to Die is borderline ludicrous in its speed and dexterity, as vocalist Oliver Rae Aleron spits insane death metal raps, with a purposeful hip-hop delivery, over guitar moves that are almost too fast to follow. Meanwhile, new drummer Spencer Moore plays at an inhuman speed that at times seems physically impossible. Aside from the passages in which guitarists Dean Lamb and Tobi Morelli are flexing their considerable neoclassical chops, much of the music is delivered at a relentless pace that beggars belief.
