McKenzie

McKenzie

Mobile, Alabama’s FattMack has slowly become one of the South’s most consistent voices since he arrived in 2020 with Rookie of the Year. He cashed in on that self-appointed freshman crown, regularly turning in quality releases in the years that followed. Fast-forward to December 2025, and he’s capped off a period of hyper-productivity with his most autobiographical and introspective work yet, McKenzie. Titled after his first name, the album features songs about his drive and devotion to his rap career, and others about how his come-up in Mobile has influenced his sometimes difficult relationship with the world. It’s the latter concern that grows especially prescient on McKenzie, released in the wake of FattMack becoming a father. On “I Admit It” he worries about a love that he struggles to rekindle, instead filling the void by popping pills. Despite the way they ravage his body, he can’t quit: “I’m getting sicker, all these drugs fucking up my body/I’m getting weaker every minute.” The title track, though, provides some catharsis, a bird’s-eye view of his life to date, which is, ultimately, a tale of triumph.
