Brad Paisley released his first holiday album, Brad Paisley Christmas, in 2006, nearly two decades before plotting this second collection of festive tunes. Time hasn’t dampened Paisley’s cheer, as the country superstar and beloved guitar-slinger giddily leans into his playful side across a 16-track collection of Christmas favorites and new contributions to the holiday canon. Paisley kicks off the LP with a bit of candid holiday atmosphere on intro track “Plug It In, Sparky,” which leads into his original song “Counting Down the Days,” originally written for the Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas event. Other original highlights include the title track, a sentimental and image-rich ballad about the reason for the season, and “Leave the Christmas Lights On for Me,” a lively two-stepper about Paisley’s own life on the road away from his family. Paisley’s takes on familiar favorites don’t disappoint, either, as on his faithful, soulful rendition of “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)” and his guitar-heavy take on “Jingle Bell Rock.”
