This Used To Be Heaven

The fourth album from Canadian deathcore dealers Angelmaker marks a major shift for the band. This Used to Be Heaven is their first record featuring new co-vocalist Ian Bearer, who replaces original vocalist Mike Greenwood and joins co-vocalist Casey Tyson-Pearce on the mic. Early single “Relinquished” gave fans a taste of what they could expect, with chiming black metal melodies and soaring leads elevating the atmosphere of Angelmaker’s dual-vocal, triple-guitar attack. On “Silken Hands,” the band cranks up the brutality with drumming from Steven Sanchez, who joined shortly after Angelmaker’s 2022 album Sanctum. Heaven’s centerpiece is the two-part “The Omen,” the second part of which features a guest shot from Shadow of Intent vocalist Ben Duerr.
