On their first album after vocalist Yoon Jiyoon officially departed in August 2025, rookie K-pop girl group izna embarked in a bold new direction. From the EP’s corrective title to the girl-crush DNA of its lead single, every element of Not Just Pretty is positioned as an exciting evolution for remaining members Mai, Bang Jeemin, Koko, Ryu Sarang, Choi Jungeun, and Jeong Saebi. A year after their debut out of the K-pop competition show I-LAND 2, Not Just Pretty’s “Mamma Mia” rolled onto the group’s discography with a minimalist Latin pop beat, evolving the muted, straightforward declarations of self-titled debut track “izna” ("Watch how I move, it’s beautiful”) into a swagger-driven story of resistance (“No matter how much they try to stop me, to lock me up/I keep climbing/Look at us standing there, laughing”). The song was produced by The Black Label’s Teddy, Kush, and 24, who were also part of the team behind KPop Demon Hunters’ soundtrack. While Not Just Pretty may represent a new incarnation for izna, the album holds on to the synth-pop sound that informed much of the group’s first year of music across “Supercrush,” “Racecar,” and “In the Rain.” For a finale, izna sharpens the edges of electropop bop “SIGN,” previously released as a standalone single, into a sleek, house remix. The track is one last reminder that, with Not Just Pretty, izna is in the process of boldly reimagining themselves, too.
