Laughter In Summer

Laughter In Summer

After returning from a 19-year hiatus with 2023’s The Ones Ahead, pioneering Canadian singer-songwriter Beverly Glenn-Copeland revealed in 2024 that he’d been diagnosed with dementia and would be retiring from public performance. Laughter in Summer is his first record since that announcement was made and was recorded in conjunction with Glenn-Copeland’s longtime partner Elizabeth Glenn-Copeland. A showcase of the organic-feeling and warm ambient pop that Glenn-Copeland became known for since his 1986 masterwork Keyboard Fantasies reached new audiences in the 2010s, the largely captured-in-one-take sessions offer new arrangements of the material that Beverly and Elizabeth performed on their final tour. Recorded in Montreal’s Hotel2Tango recording space with producer Howard Bilerman (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Vic Chesnutt) and accompanied by a choir of vocalists that includes indie songwriter Helena Deland, Laughter in Summer offers a new and in-the-room lens through which to hear Glenn-Copeland’s wandering sound.
