Orlando Higginbottom’s 2022 LP When The Lights Go marked his last under his previous moniker, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, and reckoned with what was at the time newfound sobriety and a new perspective as a musician and person. Always With Me is, as a counterpoint, a fresh start, examining the ways in which we remember things and the power in nostalgia, hazy and fragmented as those memories may be. Prior to its release, TEED spoke of the influence of French pop music, specifically the sounds he would hear on vacation as a child. That style makes its way into the lush, warm embrace and longing of the opener “Desire.” Elsewhere, on the mesmerizing disco of “Endless,” woozy synth effects and twinkling synths help create a song that simultaneously conjures a long-lost world and something refreshing and new.
