Everyone has a first flip, at least metaphorically—a youthful moment when reality is turned on its head in a disorienting rush of emotions. On their third mini album My First Flip, K-pop rookies KickFlip lean into the feeling across seven energetic tracks. On “My First Love Song,” a breathless pop-rock song that bounds along on a rush of guitar and synths, the disorientation is a desperate desire to confess one’s love. On “Band-Aid,” the spirit of hopeful declaration has turned to teen heartbreak but lost none of its rock-infused kineticism. On My First Flip, the dizzying feelings of first love are something to be indulged in, even when they sting, adding another dimension to KickFlip’s blossoming discography of pop-rock bangers.
