One of two albums dropped by Punjabi singer-songwriter-rapper Arjan Dhillon on the same day (the other being A for Arjan 2), Shikhar is a seven-track tribute to the subcontinent’s poetic greats. Adapting the works of revered writers like Shiv Kumar Batalvi (the cinematic “Tu Vida”), Surjeet Patar (“Hawa Banke”), Sukhwinder Amrit (“Kavita”) and Jagtar Singh (“Khat Likhi”), Dhillon showcases his tender, transparent side while paying homage to these lyrical masters. The music doesn’t take a back seat to the words, however, as subtle pop, acoustic and folky accents are set against hypnotic beats and melodic piano.
